I was truly blessed to be born to parents who love and cherish the Lord Jesus Christ, and so Scottsville Baptist Church in Pietermaritzburg, where they were members, became almost a second home to me growing up. It was also on a church Sunday school camp that the Lord opened my heart to see my great need of Jesus Christ as my Saviour.
A few years after leaving school and trying to forge a career in agriculture, God led me to a good (and pretty) friend who would later become my wife. After being married for just 6 months, Tanya and I were presented with a wonderful opportunity to study theology in the USA, an opportunity we couldn’t refuse. At that stage of life and with a keen interest in cross cultural missions, we thought that this might be God’s preparation for the mission field. However, God used our experience at the South Eastern Baptist Seminary to call us into pastoral ministry.
After graduating, we returned home to start a family and to take up a position as an associate pastor at Durban North Baptist Church. We enjoyed 9 special years there, along with adding 3 precious boys to our family, before God directed our ministry to the Ladysmith Baptist Church as senior pastor. We ministered for 4 and half fruitful years in Ladysmith and enjoyed the outdoors of the northern region of KwaZulu Natal.
Tanya and I are extremely blessed to be able to call Troyden, Treyson and Tryston our sons. With us all being very sporty and competitive, there is never a day without a ball being played with or a race to be won, which makes for great fun and games… most of the time. We are a family that enjoy the outdoors and so camping, fishing, hiking, birding, and animal viewing is always a holiday must.
As a family, we desire most of all to honour and glorify our God and Saviour. The Word of God is paramount in knowing how to do that, and why we should desire to do that. And so, God’s truth is at the centre of not only our family life but at the centre of our ministry as well. To lead God’s people in God’s Truth is truly a great delight and privilege for us.
