Fragrance Ministries

Led by Sally Butlin, this ministry aims to serve the women at Howick Community Church as well as the broader community. Our aim is to promote fellowship, the nurturing and loving of one another, the teaching of the Word of God, and the sharing of our lives. We arrange events throughout the year where we meet to receive what God has planned for us.

The name for our ministry was chosen because 2 Corinthians 2 : 15 says ‘ We are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing’. In verse 16 we are described by Paul as being the ‘fragrance of life’ . In order to honour and serve God we commit to share the fragrance of Christ, that sweet aroma that he brings to our souls, with other women, that they may come to know Jesus and his saving grace.

Special Occasions Tea June 5th

Sixty ladies attended this wonderful morning filled with fun, fellowship and reminiscing. After a scrumptious tea in a setting filled with beautiful flowers, the ladies were treated to a fashion show of handmade clothing worn at special events. A short talk by Sally Butlin told of the framework that special occasions become in our lives. We move through the frame to a different life-landscape on the other side and change that requires adaptation. The special occasion creates a memory or reference point from which the new reality begins and helps us to accept what is new and different. The special occasion reminds us that we have valid connections with friends and family, that we are bound by past history or a presently evolving one. As Christians, God helps us through these transitions by giving us comfort or adjusting our thinking. Blsh bhlah blssh

For women the ‘what-to-wear’ dilemma is always present when preparing for an event. We want to look good and feel special. God however clothed himself in humanity, took on bodily form in Jesus, so that we could see him face to face. He is clothed in splendour and majesty, creating everything so that we could enjoy His exquisiteness. Ladies from the worship team led us as we sang songs to acknowledge God’s glory. Afterwards the ladies shared amongst themselves the special mementos that they had brought.
