Denzil Tryon was born in Kenya in 1952 to farming parents. With his parents and four siblings he moved to South Africa in 1962 and to the then Rhodesia in 1965. Following his high-schooling at Plumtree School, he studied (unsuccessfully!) Journalism at Rhodes University where he met his future wife Heather.
Denzil and Heather were married in 1976 shortly after both had experienced God’s gracious gift of salvation through faith in Christ. Returning to South Africa both followed careers in the world of commerce until 1984 when, along with their two children Kirsty (then 4 ½) and Jordan (1 ½) , they moved to Johannesburg where Denzil studied theology at the Baptist Theological College. Following graduation the family moved to Gaborone, Botswana, in 1988 where Denzil pastored a largely expatriate multi-cultural and multi-racial Church for 16 years. Both children attended Treverton College in Kwazulu Natal and Kirsty then graduated from Stellenbosch University with a BA in 2000 and Jordan with a MFA from Rhodes University in 2006.
Kirsty is now married to Ryan and they have a beautiful son, Joshua (4) with number 2 on the way.
Jordan teaches Fine Art at Treverton College.
Following a break in ministry, during which time Denzil completed a MTh at Stellenbosch, Denzil and Heather moved to Howick in September 2006 where Denzil took up the responsibility of Senior Pastor of the Howick Community Church.
